It was a great performance from all the artists and an excellent example of how the EDM scene continues to spread to cities large and small.

EDM CHARTS’ OFFICIAL REVIEW: TIESTO | CLUB LIFE VOLUME TWO MIAMI [MUSICAL FREEDOM]

It really doesn’t get much bigger in EDM than Tiësto. He’s been doing it for years and knows what it takes to make an impression on his fan base.  The recently released compilation “Club Life Volume Two Miami” is a grand slam. The mixture of artists and exclusive remixes make it a great follow up to “Volume One Las Vegas”. This album easily rivals some of the other great compilations out there such as Anjunabeats and Tooolroom Records.

Below is a preview of the top 5 tracks from the new release:

This is arguably the best track on the album. The remix by Tiësto and Hardwell is amazing to the say the least. The Naked and Famous are an indie rock band out of New Zealand, and the original song itself is catchy in its own right. The remix speeds up the track and adds filtering to the vocals. The build is eye catching as it crescendos into a pounding bass line, which is definitely Hardwell’s influence on the track.

“We Own the Night” easily is the most club friendly track on the album. It is slightly on the verge of being “poppy”, yet it maintains its electro house elements thanks to Wolfgang Gartner. Songbird Luciana brings her gritty vocal influence to the track, giving it sultry and sexy feel.

British progressive house duo Third Party elegantly pull of this track. “What Can We Do” is full of soul and passion, and the instrumental perfectly blends with the vocals.Anastacia’s vocals are deep and impressive. It is one of those tracks that Tiësto cleverly procured on the compilation to complement his style.

The mega hit by Coldplay “Paradise” gets a makeover from Tiësto. We’ve all heard the Fedde Le Grand Remix but the Tiësto version has lighter more airy feel to it. Throughout there are ladder builds and strong push on the synths. It has a unique vibe, and you really couldn’t have a great compilation without some presence of the Coldplay hit.

“Chasing Summers” was one of the first tracks leaked from the recently released album a couple months ago. It is Tiësto at his best, pumping out an energetic instrumental single. It has somewhat of a dark feel to it, with a deep pounding bass line that is contorted over some heavenly synths. It is somewhat of Tiësto meets Markus Schulz, in an odd way.

#1 Armin van Buuren | Closing Set of UMF 2012

Is this guy not a legend? What a phenomenal closing set. Probably one of the best moments of the set was Armin dropping the John O’Callaghan remix of “Concrete Angel”. Armin is the most epic closer right now in EDM.

#2 Fedde le Grand | Paradise

Fedde’s set was one for the ages. Dropping huge hits like “Praise You”, “Metrum”, and his famous remix of “Paradise” caused for a raging crowd. This is why he always gets the main stage.

#3 Steve Aoki | Cake in the Face

Aoki is the best in the business at interacting with his crowds. What may go down as the craziest moment at UMF 2012, he caked two members of the crowd and did some “rafting”. It is also important to mention that his set was great and included some great guest vocals like Polina, Wynter Gordon and Miss Palmer.

#4 Afrojack | 10 New Songs

Afrojack was dropping one new song after another. In addition, he managed to take down a half bottle of Grey Goose. Afrojack and Lil’ Jon got the crowd pumped beyond belief with his new material.

#5 Bingo Players | Rattle

Bingo Players comes in at the surprising #5 spot. They made it “Rattle” with an electro house set full of bass. Superb mixing complemented by a great set list made this one of the acts not to be missed.

As Ultra Music Festival is nearly upon, EDM Charts takes their official glance at the lineup this week. Tonight Day 2 is examined in detail.

#1: Avicii
Who’s the hottest touring DJ right now. That answer is clearly Avicii. His current touring has led to sold out audiences at virtually every venue he has visited.

Avicii will be taking the mainstage as the premier act on Saturday night at Ultra Music Festival (UMF). Expect nothing less than a magical act, similar to what everyone experience at last year. This guy just has a keen sense for feeling the audience.

Look for Avicii to drop some of his classic hits such as “Levels” and “Fade Into Darkness” but do not be shocked if you here some material for the first time at UMF.

#2: Laidback Luke
Laidback Luke is one of the premier turntabalists in the industry. He’s the type of DJ that’ll drop 100 tracks in a 60 minute set, and can set up insane transitions.

He’s really an all-star act that is slowly starting to gain exposure in the US through his remixes and collaborations. Hopefully this year’s UMF will help take him to the next level.

What can you expect from Laidback Luke? Your sure to hear many tracks played as well as some powerhouse songs like “Speak Up” and “Turbulence”. You might have to Google his track set though, as the inventory is sure to be gargantuan.

#3: Pendulum
Pendulum is a great example of the diversity at UMF. They’re an electronic/rock band from Australia, and they pack a punch.

Even though they have not released much new material in the past year, they’re still thriving on their most recent album “Immersion”. This album was largely popular due to the hit single “The Island” that was not only popular in its original mix, but also known for its remix done by “AN21 and Max Vangelli”.

It’s hard to say what songs they’ll be dropping at UMF. Mainly expect an energetic show full of great live instruments and some electronically motivated rock.

#4: Hardwell
Hardwell has been having a huge year. In between his show “Hardwell On Air” and some of his other recent singles that have come out the past few months.

He is superb at live mixing and is sure to pack some hefty electro house. This past year he was ranked #24 on the DJMag Top 100 list, which clearly shows fans stamp of approval.

What should you expect to hear from Hardwell? Your sure to hear some of remixes that he’s done with popular artists like Martin Solveig and Taio Cruz. Also look for some of his own material like “Cobra” and “Spaceman”.

#5: Mord Fustang
Mr. Estonian is in the house in Miami this week. The young superstar electro house DJ has made quite the name for himself over the past year or so. He has his own unique style and blending that is insanely addicting to listen too.

Fustang should make a similar impression at UMF to that of Porter Robinson last year. They both share similar parallels, even though their styles vary. If you are looking for a unique experience, then mark this one down in your agenda.

This is great timing for Fustang. This past week he dropped his newest EP which features some great new tracks. In addition expect to hear some of his bigger hits over the past year such as “Lick The Rainbow” and “Milky Way”.

As Ultra Music Festival is nearly upon, EDM Charts takes their official glance at the lineup this week. Tonight, the first night (Friday) is examined in detail, where the top #5 acts are narrowed down.

#1: Tiësto
Well, in all honesty this is somewhat of a no-brainer. Tiësto is one of the most elite live performers around. All one has to do is look at his track record since the early 2000s.

He will be taking over the mainstage as the main act of Friday night. Any UMF goer must make this a part of their itinerary.

Some key songs to look for Tiësto to drop are “Bring That Beat Back”, “Chasing Summers” and “We Own The Night”.

#2: Miike Snow
One of the greatest things about UMF is the diversity of the concert, as artists range from House, Dubstep, and Indie. Miike Snow is a prime reflection of this, and they too excel at live performances.

This Swedish trio has just released their most recent album “Happy To You”. It is full of great tracks. In addition, they really have found their own niche that lies somewhere in between indie/EDM/pop.

If you get a chance to see them live or listen to them on the digital radio look for some great live instruments and some of their newest hits such as “Devil’s Work” and “Paddling Out”.

#3: Wolfgang Gartner
Gartner has had a fantastic past couple months. Pumping out plenty of great tracks and collaborations, it would be a mistake to miss Gartner at UMF on Friday.

He is definitely one of the most up and coming US DJs/Producers. He is also known for his ability to pull off some slick live mixes.

Look out for his relatively new track “There And Back” as well some of his remixes and more than likely his new single with Tiësto from Club Life 2: Miami.

#4: Nicky Romero
EDM Charts is calling it now. Nicky Romero will generate a large amount of buzz at this festival, with it being somewhat reminiscent of Avicii last year. He has just dropped way too many hits to not get noticed.

If you go to this performance, it is guaranteed to be high energy and full of BPMs. You’ll also get to experience his own spin on “Dirty Dutch”.
Look at for key singles such as “Toulouse”, “Se7en” and “Generation 303”. You will not be disappointed.

#5: Dirty South
Australian DJ Dirty South beat out some hefty talent to make #5 on this list. Once again, this is another example of an artist that has been tearing the EDM scene up.

If you want some pure progressive house then this is an act you’ll want to catch. Who knows, there may even be a surprise addition of fellow vocalist Kate Elsworth, if fans are lucky.

Keep your ears perked for some big hits like “Eyes Wide Open”, “Rise” and “Walking Alone”.

Ultra Musical Festival 2012 is hosting a DJ Mix competition. In honor of the upcoming event EDM Charts looks at a few of the top mixes in our opinion. Keep in mind, this has nothing to do with the number of “listens” on Mixcloud; it is solely based on our opinion.

As the greatest month in the US for Electronic Dance Music is upon us, it is time to take an in-depth look at one of the most important events in Miami, the Winter Music Conference: 2012. This is the show where the pros go.

Having started in 1985, 2012 marks the 27th anniversary of the Winter Music Conference, which occurs this year, Mar. 16-25. Unlike a pure music festival, it reflects its title, being a conference made up of seminars, workshops, parties, and most importantly networking.

The conference is mainly focused in gathering up artists, A&R, labels, promoters, and others that work or have business ties to the industry.

Let’s take a look at the top #5 must do’s at WMC 2012:

#1: 27th Annual International Dance Music Awards

This is the biggest event of WMC, hands down. All types of awards are given out at the IDMA’s. Anything from Best House Track to Best Podcast. Last year the IDMA’s resulted in over 2 million votes from all over the globe.

Key awards/results to look for this year are Best Solo Artist: will it be David Guetta, Skrillex, Avicii or Kaskade? Best Global Record Label: who wins between Anjunabeats, Toolroom Records, Aramada Music or Ultra Records?

If you attend WMC but don’t make it to the awards show, you will have definitely missed out.

#2: The Recording Academy & WMC Producers Forum

This is a panel that is made up of artists and producers. They will share their thoughts and opinions on the current EDM scene. Discussions will be mainly focused on the business side of the industry and developments and trends with the production side.

The forum will be a great event to hear what artists think of what is going on; you’ll hear the numbers side and the creative side.

#3: WMC Opening Pool Party

Well, once you make it in town and have gone through the opening day motions, you might as well head out that night to a party and great music.

WMC Opening Pool Party takes place on Fri. March 16 at the Surfcomber Hotel Pool area and features Miami favorite Robbie Rivera. There are about 9 or so other regional DJs that will be performing in addition.

#4: WMC 2012 DJ Spin-Off

Whether or not you’re into scratching, this is an event you will not want to miss. This will feature DJs from all over. They will be judged by a panel of experts and celebrities. Based on previous success, WMC has made this a two-day event.

This event will be entertaining and exciting to watch, and you’ll get to see which up and coming DJs have some true scratching skills.

#5: Record Collectors Shows

Even though the world is going digital, there is still demand for vinyl, whether you’re a collector or actually are still utilizing it. You never know what genius sample you might dig up from a 1977 record that will be the next #1 hit on the house charts on Beatport.

This show will take place March 24 at The Beachplex. If you plan on buying a lot of wax, plan on being strong as hell or hiring a crew to carry out your possessions.
