WEEKLY TOP ELECTRONIC CHARTS: FEBRUARY 2012, VOL. 38

EDM superstars and studs dominate  this week’s top #5 chart. Gareth Emery produces the biggest hit of 2012 thus far with newcomer vocalist Christina Novelli in “Concrete Angel”. Dutch rookie of the year Nicky Romero shows of a bit of acid house with “Generation 303”. Chris Lake “Builds Up” his momentum with a remix by Tommy Trash.

1. GARETH EMERY, CHRISTINA NOVELLI “CONCRETE ANGEL” [ORIGINAL MIX] (GARUDA)

Release Date: 2012-02-13

What can you really say, other than Gareth Emery has done it again, with another smash hit in “Concrete Angel”. The song easily rivals the levels of success of his previous track “Sanctuary”. Emery’s eye for talent shines through by selecting newcomer vocalist Christina Novelli to the track. The production on the track is slick and the meaning behind it is even greater.

Many stamps of approval have already been placed on this hit. Probably the biggest level of recognition is the track making Above & Beyond’s TATW podcast 2 weeks in a row. The vocals perfectly match the harmony of the instrumental. The flow is steady and gripping. There’s just enough power in the synths and beat to give it just the right amount of trance feel.

With this song, Emery has surely secured himself a spot in the DJMag top #10 for 2012. In addition, Novelli’s appearance will certainly make her a hot name to collaborate with. EDM fans are excited to see the next album that Emery is in the process of producing.

2. NICKY ROMERO “GENERATION 303” [ORIGINAL MIX] (MUSICAL FREEDOM)

Release Date: 2012-02-06

Nicky Romero cannot be stopped. He has been a machine of late, producing one hit after another. “Generation 303” is no exception, and is arguably his biggest track thus far. The track combines elements of acid house mashed up with vocals from UK electronic band Chemical Brothers.

“Generation 303” is an interesting take on the current Electro House genre. To say this track is filled with energy is an understatement. Electro sounds and quirkiness separate it from the current Dirty Dutch style.

Romero has the chance to become this year’s Avicii. This young Dutch superstar possesses the skill set to produce and remix. Don’t be shocked if Romero isn’t in the top #25 by the end of 2012.

3. CHRIS LAKE, TOMMY TRASH “BUILD UP” [TOMMY TRASH EDIT] (ULTRA)

Release Date: 2012-02-07

Scottish DJ Chris Lake joins up with Australian DJ Tommy Trash to produce a true electro banger in “Build Up”. This is somewhat of a different style for Lake, as he is most well known for his Progressive House style. It is quite obvious though that Lake has the ability to make various genres of music.

Trash’s remix adds his patented style of grinded out synths that EDM fans have come to love. Vocals are actually provided  by Lake’s wife Gita Lake, who shines on the track. The build up is great, as it leads to a crescendo of bassline in the breakdown.

Lake has been around the scene for awhile now, and is only growing his fan base. The selection of Tommy Trash on the remix was a great decision, as he is currently the hottest remixer out there. “Build Up” will surely keep creeping up the Beatport charts.

4. KASKADE, GREGORI KLOSMAN, SKYLAR GREY “ROOM FOR HAPPINESS” [GREGORI KLSOMAN REMIX] (ULTRA)

Release Date: 2011-02-07

Kaskade is somewhat of modern day genius. He does a better job than anyone in integrating Indie style to EDM music. The Gregori Klosman remix of “Room For Happiness” is fascinating. The track combines pop star singer Skylar Grey to produce a hit.

The original single was actually a part of Kaskade’s album “Fire & Ice”. Klosman adds elements of electro house and snappy pop to give the track a energetic feel. The attention to detail on the vocals give the track deep meaning.

Kaskade is an example of a great American artist. His roots in the Bay Area allow for him to continue to add to his portfolio of unique sounding hits.  “Room For Happiness” is just another example of a brilliantly executed collaboration.

Release Date: 2011-02-06

Russian DJ Bobina has produced a huge trance hit in “Diamond Hell”. It is a dark track with deep energy and impact. It has already received great support from the #1 DJ in the world Armin van Buuren.

The track itself fits the mold of a standard track found on “A State of Trance”. The various electronic noises and synths are composed in such a manner that it leads to perfect harmony.

Bobina shows the world that Russia is breeding ground for EDM talent. Bobina has already acheived much success with his podcast “Russia Goes Clubbing”. This is a perfect track for a large concert or festival.

I prefer the orignal ‘Concrete Angel’ to the remix, as well as ‘Room for Happiness.’

Thank you Mr. McGee! We certainly agree that the Original Mix of Concrete Angel is the best.

We went with the Klosman Remix, as we felt it had some unique electro house elements to it.

Thank you for supporting our blog!
