WEEKLY TOP ELECTRONIC CHARTS: FEBRUARY 2012, VOL. 41

29 Feb

Big names and collaborations are the name of the game in this week’s Top #5 Chart! Dutch legend Sander van Doorn give us this year’s “Koko” with his new single “Chasin'”. Andrew Bayer & Matt Lange of Anjunabeats are in with “In And Out Phase”. Leon Bolier jumps in with Julie Thompson for a great trance track in “Underwater”.

1. SANDER VAN DOORN “CHASIN’” [ORIGINAL MIX] (DOORN RECORDS)

Release Date: 2012-02-27

Sander van Doorn is at it again, this time with a progressive house instrumental banger. Many observers and EDM fans alike could compare “Chasin'” as an equivalent and somewhat similar to the track to “Koko”, as both are instrumentals and unique in style. It is quite clear that van Doorn is on top of his game, and this is just another example of his wide array of production skills. We won’t forget his monster year in 2011, but here comes 2012!

The track is made up of various electronically produced sounds and has a great bass beat. There even seems to be a slight chime/bell to accompany the build and give it a light happy feel. The tune is perfect for  a big room and is rather catchy, even without vocals.

It will be interesting to see if van Doorn remakes this single and searches out a vocalist (Nadia Ali perhaps?). This is an excellent track to start of his 2012 campaign. It is good to see van Doorn sticking to his roots of Progressive House and making this week’s #1 spot on the Weekly Top #5 Chart.

2. KERRY LEVA, ANDREW BAYER, MATT LANGE “IN AND OUT PHASE” [NORIN & RAD REMIX] (ANJUNABEATS)

Release Date: 2012-02-27

Business like usual for Anjunabeats. Matt Lange & Andrew Bayer get together to produce a great trance track in “In And Out Phase”. The remix by Norin & Rad is flawless, as it gives EDM listeners a bit depth. Kerry Leva was an excellent selection on vocals as her voice perfectly blends with the instrumental, giving it a slick vibe.

One of the best elements of the instrumentals is the integration of symphonic instruments, with what appears to be a violin. As usual everything is in harmony. The piano also adds to the build, giving it an airy feeling.

You know a track is a hit when Above & Beyond feature it on Trance Around The World. Bayer & Lange are a great combination and should continue to produce together. Put this down as another hallmark in the Anjunabeats library.

3. LEON BOLIER, JULIE THOMPSON “UNDERWATER” [CLUB MIX] (MAGIK MUZIK)

Release Date: 2012-02-27

Dutch DJ Leon Bolier has produced and outstanding single with vocalist Julie Thompson on the new single “Underwater”. It is vocal trance at its finest. Thompson was the perfect fit to compliment the new single. Her mellow voice matches up just right with the instrumental build.

Bolier does a great job by making this hit full of complexity. The vocals are simple yet well-written. The reverbs and filters that are applied to both the beat and vocals make perfect sense, as it even gives it somewhat of an Oceanlab feel.

Bolier hasn’t been the biggest name on the EDM scene, however his track record speaks for itself. Bolier makes great trance, and this one receives an A+ rating.

4. STEFANO NOFERINI, NADIA ALI, ALEX SAYZ “FREE TO GO” [STEFANO NOFERINI CLUB MIX] (ZOUK RECORDINGS)

Release Date: 2011-02-08

This is the perfect example of a remake and collaboration, which features the likes of Swiss producer Alex Sayz and counterparts Nadia Ali & Stefano Noferini. The track gives listeners a tech-house feel and it is extremely catchy. It never hurts either, to feature the hottest vocalist on the planet currently, Nadia Ali.

Noferini works his magic on the remix by integrating a bouncy feel. Nadia Ali comes through yet again, showcasing her beautiful voice and range. The track actually has a tribal feel to it, as simple elements such as some minor drums/bongos are audible. Other electro quirks make it even more captivating.

It’s great to see tech-house make this week’s chart. It is a fascinating genre that seems to keep growing day-by-day. As bigger names venture down this avenue, it will only continue to expand. This is a must have tech-house track for any EDM fan.

5. RONSKI SPEED, ALEXANDER POPOV, SIR ADRIAN “SEEN IT ALL” [ALEXANDER POPOV MIX] (AMSTERDAM TRANCE RECORDS)

Release Date: 2011-02-13

German producer Ronski Speed pulls out all the stops on the new trance hit “Seen It All”. The remixed version by Alexander Popov gives it an edgy feel. Sir Adrian on the vocals stands out, as he is the a natural fit for a bit of darker track.

The build starts out by being open and airy. It then speeds up with various synths and comes to a crescendo with some deeper basslines. It is somewhat similar in style to a Markus Schulz produced banger.

Listener’s certainly haven’t “Seen It All” yet with Ronski Speed. As he already has numerous accolades under his belt, this single just adds to an already impressive portfolio.
