EDM Charts can feel the summer upon us! Prodigy Mat Zo makes fans look to the heavens with “The Sky”. “1234”, Laidback Luke and more! Armin van Buuren brings the “Noise” with his latest crowd pleaser.
1. MAT ZO, LINNEA SCHOSSOW “THE SKY’” [EXTENDED MIX] (ANJUNABEATS)
Perfection. Passion. Deep. All of these words describe Mat Zo’s most recent single “The Sky”. EDM Charts is lucky enough to have an insider’s take on this hit, considering the fact that vocalist Linnea Schossow was here two weeks ago for an interview. The song was birthed in Budapest and the concept is based on the great feeling when you first fall in love.
As described by Above & Beyond on TATW, the track is very Catholic in sense. Zo has created a hybrid track that integrates electro elements with the smoothest of trance synths. Schossow shines on the track with angelic vocals, which she personally had composed.
What can’t you say about Zo? His guest mixes on TATW are always out of this world. The Bipolar EP was an eclectic endearment of selection. Let’s hope that Zo plans on releasing a full length album in the near future.

2. LAIDBACK LUKE, CHUCKIE, MARTIN SOLVEIG “1234” [ORIGINAL MIX] (MIXMASH RECORDS)
The King of Mixing (at least on the CDJs) is in the house: the one and only Laidback Luke! Under his Mixmash Label Luke brings some friends on deck in the form of Chuckie and Martin Solveig. “1234” is a combination of electro house meets dirty dutch, with a dramatic flair added.
There is definitely one thing to say about the song; Laidback Luke sure did not shy away from stacking up the talent. You can see all three of the artist’s thumbprints on the track. The pace of Luke. The singing synths of Chuckie. The majestic aura of Solveig.
This is a nice addition to the Mixmash collection. It is something a bit more layered and complex than the typical electro house. Luke has not only mastered the decks, but he is now showing fans his abilities as an orchestrator of talent.
CLASSIC COLLABORATION: OLIVER $ “DOIN’ YA THANG” [ORIGINAL MIX] (PLAY IT DOWN)
This week’s classic track brings us back a year ago to Beatport’s top track of the year: Oliver $ (OliverDollar) – “Doin’ Ya Thang”. This track lasted 5 straight weeks in the #1 position on the Beatport Top 100.
Oliver $ is a German DJ who has been producing the last 3 years. He has gained massive respect in the industry for his funk/drum based house productions. “Doin’ Ya Thang” is funk/soul ladened beat that samples Moodymann AKA Kenny Dixon Jr. throughout the track. The vocals are part storytelling and comedy.
The homework done by Oliver $ to dig up these vocals is phenomenal. It was great to see a house track like “Doin’ Ya Thang” be received so well by the EDM community. Keep in mind that house is what really built the genre.
3. ARMIN VAN BUUREN “WE ARE HERE TO MAKE SOME NOISE” [EXTENDED MIX] (ARMIND)
This week’s #3 position is taken over by the number #1 DJ in the world: Armin van Buuren. His latest single “We Are Here To Make Some Noise” is inspired by the Dutch National Soccer team and the upcoming UEFA Championship tournament.
The track seems like it is crafted a bit different in style from the norm for van Buuren. It is actually almost somewhat reminiscent of Ferry Corsten (another Dutch star). It is a bit more progressive in style, however it carries the festival feel. Live crowd noises and horns are integrated in to give it more an “in-person” feel.
Who knows how the Dutch will do in the upcoming tournament. One thing we do know is that this track will be rocking the crowds and clubs during the month of May and June, regardless of the standings.
4. DARRYL GREEN, SHENA “TEARS IN MY EYES” [CRAZIBIZA MIX] (HED KANDI RECORDS)
UK DJ/Producer Darryl Green has hit it big at the young age of 22 with “Tears In My Eyes”. It is a housey/nu-disco track that encapsulates the happy-go-lucky club feel of the Hed Kandi label. Accompanied by some deep and soulful vocals form Shena, the track will keep the dance floor funkin’.
Thanks to the Hungarian duo Crazibiza, the remix packs much more energy and pace than the original. Flute like notes are mashed in with some electro vibes and soul rhythms. It is funky, fresh and flows.
Green shows a lot of promise with his latest house track. It was an excellent decision to include Shena on vocals. Hed Kandi is a great label for Green to get started under as it will provide him with plenty of exposure on their compilation releases as well as their connection with the Ministry of Sound clubs.
5. ANSWER42 “THE LEMON EFFECT” [PROFF REMIX] (ANJUNADEEP)
This is the second Anjuna artist on the top #5 countdown this week. Answer42, an Italian trio of DJs, go deep with their latest single “The Lemon Effect”. Naturally under the Anjunadeep portion of the label, this single is groove driven and deeply layered.
The remix by PROFF, adds a few more layers that give the track more of a 3-D effect, through additions of reverbs, filtering and echoes. It is fairly quick for a deep house track, yet the vibe is chill, mellow and relaxing.
Answer42 does a great job of capturing the essence of Anunadeep with this single. All the way from the title to the instrumental, every part is genuine and eclectic. Let’s hope to hear even more from this trio under the Ajuna label.
