WEEKLY TOP ELECTRONIC CHARTS: AUGUST 2012, VOL. 66

23 Aug

School is just around the corner, better get some good party music together! Sander van Doorn & Julian Jordan “hop” to #1 with Kangaroo.  Laidback Luke & Angger Dimas create memories with “A Night Like This”.  Deniz Koyu has many “follwers” with his latest hit.

1. SANDER VAN DOORN, JULIAN JORDAN “KANGAROO” [ORIGINAL MIX] (DOORN RECORDS) Release Date: 2012-08-20

What rhymes with “skip to my lou”? Well, if you guessed it you’re a genius because it is Kanagroo. Sander van Doorn and Julian Jordan collaborate on a hybrid track that’s electro house meets dubstep. It’s amazing that Julian Jordan is only 17 years old; not many of us could imagine being on that type of stage at that age.

Like previously mentioned, the track has plenty of twists and turns. You can tell Van Doorn is on the track, considering the intro portion eerily has a sound like “Chasin'”. Julian Jordan takes over with the massive dubstep vibes that are sure to rattle any dance floor.

This is a great track because these guys weren’t afraid to experiment! It turned out beautifully and it introduced many fans to a new face in Julian Jordan.

2. LAIDBACK LUKE, ANGGER DIMAS, POLINA “NIGHT LIKE THIS” [MAIN MIX] (NEW STATE MUSIC) Release Date: 2012-08-20

Well, do you think there is enough talent on this track? Laidback Luke, Angger Dimas and amazing vocalist Polina get together for a good ole’ shin dig on this electro banger. It’s an eclectic mixture of some hard hitting house with some earth shaking vocals looped into it all.

The loop that leads into the track is crazy. It is a whirlwind of noises. You can definitely see Laidback Luke’s thumbprint on the instrumental, with jet like synths. Once again, it is important to give props to Polina, as her vocals are what make the track.

Get out there and buy the track, especially if you’re a DJ. It is packed full of energy and is a great assembly of talent.

CLASSIC COLLABORATION: FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE, MARK KNIGHT “YOU’VE GOT THE LOVE” [MARK KNIGHT REMIX] (TOOLROOM RECORDS) Release Date: 2011-06-13

This classic collaboration kind probably be stated as the biggest hit from 2011. Florence And The Machine and Mark Knight made an original hit event better. It is gripping and full of passion.

One thing that many people don’t know about this track, is that all the sales that occurred on Beatport were donated to those affected by the tsunami in Japan. What a great way to give back to the word.

It really doesn’t get much better than this. A great indie act. A great DJ. A great hit.

3. DENIZ KOYU, WYNTER GORDON “FOLLOW YOU” [ORIGINAL MIX] (BIG BEAT RECORDS) Release Date: 2012-08-20

Deniz Koyu is easily one of the quickest rising artists and up and comers of 2012. He is a beast in the studio, pumping out one hit after another. His recent track “Follow You” is a great production which pop songstress Wynter Gordon feeds off of.

Did I mention that Gordon kills the vocals on this track? She does an absolutely amazing job. The instrumental has great progressive house feel, that has warm vibes and plenty of catchyness. It is much more poppy than the rest of Koyu’s releases, but it is stellar in its own right.

Koyu should surely be in the top #100 this year on the DJMag countdown. If not, it will be a complete shame. Also, look out for Wynter Gordon as she keeps gathering more and more exposure.

4. FEED ME “LITTLE CAT STEPS” [ORIGINAL MIX] (MAU5TRAP) Release Date: 2012-08-20

UK drum and bass, electro and dubstep artist Feed Me drops a great new banger in “Little Cat Steps”. It has that classic mau5trap feel to it, finding a middle ground between electro and progressive house, while maintaining a firm edgy feel.

There is a cool interlude where a group of children yell “feed me”. It is an abstract take on the artist’s name. It then leads into some massive drops for the dubstep fans out there. Overall, the production is firmly stitched together considering how many different styles are occurring at once.

This is a great release by Feed Me, as it is a follow up to his latest album release earlier in the year. mau5trap is doing big things and working its way into being a top 10 label.

5. MADEON, DILLON FRANCIS “FINALE” [DILLON FRANCIS REMIX] (POPCULTUR) Release Date: 2012-08-20

A little moombathon, a dash of dubstep, and sprinkle of electro. Voila! You’ve got a “Finale”. Madeon, who we might mention, is only 17 collaborates with US DJ Dillon Francis on this experimental track.

The track is rather eclectic. It has an intriguing vocal loop that is bended over some funky synths. When the dubstep hits, it is stern and fair. To be honest this one is a bag of potpourri.

This is another example of two very young artists doing huge things. How many of us can honestly admit we’ve DJ’d at Ultra Music Festival before we were even legal in the US?
