WEEKLY TOP ELECTRONIC CHARTS: SEPTEMBER 2012, VOL. 69

15 Sep

It’s that time of the season and hopefully you’re “fall”ing in love with great music. Digitalism aims for the heavens with “Zdarlight”. Calvin Harris & Nicky Romero new single is made of “Iron”.  Nitrous Oxide’s latest single gets “two” thumbs up.

1. DIGITALISM “ZDARLIGHT” [FEDDE LE GRAND & DENIZ KOYU REMIX] (TOOLROOM RECORDS) Release Date: 2012-09-10

German DJ duo Digitalism has been on fire over the last year or so. They are probably most well recognized for their single “Circles” which Eric Prydz did a brilliant remix; and it was also the theme song for Ultra Music Festival 2012. There latest single “Zdarlight” (yes that’s the proper quirky spelling) is an electro house banger thanks to other fellow DJ compadres Fedde Le Grand and Deniz Koyu.

This single could easily be worked into the club or festival. It has “rock” infused type vibe integrated to the deep electro house tones. The brief interludes allow you to catch your breath, as it takes in a snapshot, like you’re in the middle of a large stadium raging to some great EDM.

Digitalism is a force to be reckoned with. Their productions are unique and organic which is definitely a breath of fresh air, especially in the electro house genre, where so many producers are dropping tracks.

2. CALVIN HARRIS, NICKY ROMERO “IRON” [ORIGINAL MIX] (PROTOCOL RECORDINGS) Release Date: 2012-09-10

Well, who would’ve thought we’d see these two collaborating? Probably not too many. Despite the odds, Nicky Romero and Calvin Harris put their minds together and have produced an electro house banger in “Iron”. You can hear Romero’s influence with the hard hitting synths. Harris supplies the great vocals, which is an amazing ability he possesses considering he DJs as well.

This track is great for the fact that it is one of the better productions to come out of this genre and contain great vocals. Romero does what he does by laying down an aggressive track that does not disappoint for bassheads.

This is an example of a great collaboration. Romero is on fire and surely will be a top #20 DJ this year. Calvin Harris is becoming a true international superstar that doesn’t sell out and stays true to his roots.

CLASSIC COLLABORATION: TRITONAL, CRISTINA SOTO “LIFTED” [MAT ZO REMIX] (AIR UP THERE RECORDINGS) Release Date: 2011-02-14

This week’s classic track is brought to you by a US DJ duo out of Dallas: Tritonal. They’re very well known for “airy” productions that emphasize what trance should really be about. “Lifted”  remixed by Mat Zo is a classic for a reason; it’s a perfect composition. The instrumental is like their label title “Air Up There”. Cristina Soto vocals are unbelievably gorgeous.

Make sure you take a chance to listen to the lyrics as well, as the song writing is brilliant and very meaningful about a love that’s lifted. The filters that are applied throughout the track clearly demonstrate the skill set of the Dallas based duo.

If you’re looking a classic trance track, then this is the one. Tritonal is a very underated set of DJs, that are quickly gaining more and more exposure. Make sure, in addition, to check out their radio show as well.

3. NITROUS OXIDE, JESS MORGAN “TWO SIDES” [ORIGINAL MIX] (ADRIAN & RAZ) Release Date: 2012-09-10

At the #3 spot this week is Polish DJ Nitrous Oxide, most well known from the Anjunabeats label with his latest single “Two Sides” with Jess Morgan on vocals. This is a great trance production that plays on light and airy instrumentals complimented by the voice of an angel in Morgan.

The instrumental is classic Nitrous Oxide. It has the soft, gentle flow that we are all used to from his productions, that seem to be a perma-addition to Trance Around The World episodes with Above & Beyond. Morgan is a great discovery on vocals, as she is actually more commonly found with British folk tracks.

Nitrous Oxide is one of the best when it comes to trance bliss. Watch out for this Polish powder keg, as he continues to pump out amazing productions.

4. SWANKY TUNES “BLOOD RUSH” [ORIGINAL MIX] (SHOWLAND) Release Date: 2012-09-03

The all-star trio are back again with the ill flavor, this time with another electro house banger in “Blood Rush”. Vadim, Dmitry and Stanislav always make sure to put the party in the track, and this one is no exception. It is full of high energy and plenty of bass.

It is a little bit difficult to lock down on Swanky Tunes production style. There’s a little bit of house, a lot of electro and even a slight sense of dubstep. “Blood Rush” is good title to the track, as it would be a perfect sound track to a first person shooter video game.

This is a great follow up track to “Here We Go” which is a great rager anthem. Swanky Tunes keep propelling their name up the charts as they keep pumping out quality tracks like this.

5. AVICII “SILHOUETTES” [LAZY RICH REMIX] (LE7ELS) Release Date: 2012-09-05

Avicii is phenomenal producer, and the original version of “Silhouettes” was a huge hit landing massive chart play. This time he invites some guest DJs in to remix the track on the latest remix EP. The one remix that really stood out is from Canadian DJ Lazy Rich. He adds an electro edge to original progressive house track.

The track is full of bass and is more of a party hit, than a thoughtful relaxing progressive house track.  This is a perfect track for a massive festival, as it would surely get a crowd of 100,000 jumping up and down. Lazy Rich went hard in the paint chopping up vocals and speeding up the BPMs.

Avicii never disappoints. His production always seem to be unique and distinct at the same time. No matter if he sick half the time or traveling around the globe, he’s a mad man who never stops producing.
