29 Jul

EDMCHARTS_113

As we hit the midpoint of summer, the tracks are really heating up! Nicky Romero & Krewella leave a lasting impression with “Legacy”. Boom Jinx shows us some love from Anjunabeats. Cosmic Gate “crush” it with some banging trance.

1. NICKY ROMERO, KREWELLA “LEGACY” [ORIGINAL MIX] (PROTOCOL RECORDINGS) Release Date: 2013-7-15edmcharts_krewella

Rating: ★★★★★

Genre: PROGRESSIVE HOUSE

Origin: HOLLAND, USA

Description: Well couldn’t necessarily say we say this collaboration coming, but it sure worked out well between Nicky Romero and the trio of Krewella. This is easily a top 10 release of 2013 thus far. The beat is infectious with combinations of heavy builds and the patented dirty Romero synths we are used to hearing. The added elements of vocals from Krewella really bring the song “alive”. Let’s hope they do another collaboration, if this is any sign of what they can achieve together.

2. BOOM JINX, ASHLEY TOMBERLIN “WHEN YOU LOVED ME” [MAOR LEVI CLUB MIX] (ANJUNABEATS) Release Date: 2013-7-15

Rating: ★★★★

Genre: TRANCE

Origin: NORWAY

Description: Norwegian Boom Jinx’s latest release on power house label Anjunabeats is one of the best in his deep portfolio. This special track is a great blend of raw emotion in Ashley Tomberlin’s vocals combined with a smooth proggy beat we are used to hearing from this label. Maor Levi adds a hard edge to the track to keep the listener on edge. Overall, we wouldn’t expect anything less from Anjunabeats.

3. COSMIC GATE “CRUSHED” [RAFAEL FROST REMIX] (BLACK HOLE RECORDINGS) Release Date: 2013-7-15

Rating: ★★★★

Genre: TRANCE

Origin: GERMAN

Description: When you think of legends in the EDM game, Cosmic Gate should always make the list. They’ve been pumping out classic trance tracks for over a decade. This latest single “Crushed” has a bit more modern feel to it, with a twinge of electro added in. Rafael Frost goes a bit more hard in the paint on the remix, which is fine and makes it a great festival track. The track is complete and full of energy, which is something we are already rather familiar with from Cosmic Gate.

4. MARCUS SCHOSSOW “REVERIE” [ORIGINAL MIX] (AXTONE) Release Date: 2013-7-12

Rating: ★★★

Genre: PROGRESSIVE HOUSE

Origin: SWEDEN

Description: For those of you who don’t speak French, “Reverie” means a daydream. This track will send you in loops with its circuitous nature. The track is constructed in two parts; the proggy interlude that is just like a dream and then the breakdown with some slamming bass. It honestly almost has a slight feel of Cirez D/Pryda track. Axtone records is blowing up the scene right now. With huge artists on the label, no wonder why it’s been in the limelight.

5. DAVID JONES, AQUA DIVA “SUNNY” [DIVA & JONES REMIX] (PINK RABBIT) Release Date: 2013-7-15

Rating: ★★★

Genre: PROGRESSIVE HOUSE

Origin: ITALY

Description: David Jones & Aqua Diva round out the top #5 list this week with something new sounding at least for them, generally speaking. We are all used to hearing funky house sounds from these two, which it does have a bit in the chorus, but this track goes beyond that. The bassline that hits is sick and gets to the point. The beat is catchy and overall a well laid out piece. Mad props to the duo from Italy!
