As we enter our second week of countdowns, we are now upon Progressive House. This year featured some new faces as well as legends. Bringing the tracks to life on the special guest mix is Royski.

#1 – Mark Knight – Man With The Red Face (Hardwell Remix) [Toolroom Records]

What do you get when you have two legends in Mark Knight and Funkagenda remixed by the #1 DJ in 2013: Hardwell? You get arguably the best track of 2013 and certainly the best progressive house release of the year. Everyone keeps asking what is missing in the current EDM scene. The answer is live instrumentals, and this track features one of the most memorable saxophone sets of all time, drenched in soul. The additional electro house elements laced in, give the track a powerful burst. Toolroom Records dominated the charts this year and clearly showed all listeners the talent seeping out of their label.

#2 – Pryda – Power Drive [Pryda Recordings]

Is there a more unique, genuine and stick-to-their-guns artist out their then Pryda AKA Eric Prydz? With massive releases covering nearly all genres in 2013, Pryda may be the most talented producer in EDM history. “Power Drive” is a hybrid mixture of progressive house, techno and electro. The buildup is monumental and then comes crashing down in a epic crescendo of bassline and vocal loops, mixed in with harmonious violin chords. It’s a cornucopia of goodness that any EDM fan will surely appreciate. Oh, and did we mention, Pryda nearly single handedly showed Las Vegas how to get down on the dark side, with his “Black Dice” themed parties.

#3 – Seven Lions & Myon & Shane54 – Strangers ft. Tove Lo (Original Mix) [Casablanca Recordings]

Seven Lions has made quite the progression over the last couple years, seemingly coming out of nowhere after winning an Above & Beyond remix contest. Joining the newcomer are two of the best in the industry in harmonious tunes; Myon & Shane54. The track shows the flexibility and differences between the two producers. Myon & Shane54 bring that happy-go-lucky feel of euphoria with the upper tones, which are then brilliantly melded with Seven Lions progressive-dub bass. In addition, Tove Lo brings some of the best vocals of 2013 on the track that are simply gorgeous in nature. This is definitely the best hybrid track of 2013.

#4 – Moguai, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – Mammoth (Original Mix) [Spinnin Records]

Belgium brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like make it a true party by bringing in German Moguai to make a “mammoth” track. Highlighted at Tomorrowland, one of the largest festivals in the world in Belgium, “Mammoth” is literally in your face. The interludes showcases white space well, which gives the track a preshistoric feel. When the chorus kicks in, it is massive on the bass and filters. This was truly a great combination of talent and we hope for more collaborations between these three.

#5 – Hard Rock Sofa – Rasputin (Original Mix) [Axtone Records]

It doesn’t get much more grimier and high paced then the Russian duo of Hard Rock Sofa. They have nearly single handedly brought Axwell’s new label Axtone to one of the top 20 labels in the game. “Rasputin” cleverly named after the Russian Czar witch doctor, has an incredible pace, only comparable to that of Cristiano Ronaldo. With a massive break down on the keys of the synth and a prodigal vocal chop, you feel like you’re swindling Karkov vodka with the Romanovs. Hard Rock Sofa known for party bangers, was highlighted as well at Ultra Music Festival 2013 in Swedish House Mafia’s last ever set together.
