For the third week of countdowns we highlight trance. 2013 highlighted a return to the classic genre and even faster BPMs. On the special guest mix this week is Viper Huxley.
#1 – Ferry Corsten feat Jenny Wahlstrom – Many Ways (Will Atkinson Midnight Remix) [Flashover Recordings]
Taking over the #1 trance track of 2013 is Ferry Corsten, a legend in the game for over a decade. With a little help from Holland remix master Will Atkinson, the track enters the 138 BPM realm. In addition, gorgeous vocals from Jenny Wahlstrom give the track true meaning and touch. The remix by Atkinson is pure trance vibe, with a constant old school trance bassline. Ferry Corsten has had quite the year with numerous singles that have garnered much attention. He consistently changes his style and adjusts to the times, but one thing that never changes is the quality of all his productions under Flashover Recordings.
#2 – Kat Krazy featuring elkka – Siren (Armin van Buuren Remxi) [Armada Music]
Kat Krazy, a relatively new name to the EDM scene, has absolutely stormed to the forefront. Most well-known for pop remixes as of late, his latest track “Siren” goes along the the trance route. With the remix provided by one of the top DJs of all time, Armin van Buuren, the track is pure magic. In this instance, the pop vibe of the track hitting the standard “State of Trance” feel provide an extremely unique take on the flexibility of the genre. This may be the number one played trance track on radio play for 2013.
#3 – John O’Callaghan, Full Tilt – Breathe ft. Karen Kelly (Will Atkinson Remix) [Captivating Sounds]
Coming in at the three spot is probably the most pure form of trance with “Breathe” by Full Tilt and John O’Callaghan, with Will Atkinson on the remix, striking again. With huge synths and a massive drop, the track has as much energy as a pack of firecrackers. The subtle addition of vocals are important elements that are laced throughout the production. This again, is a classic take on original trance, that is more so built on euphoria then electro house elements, that seem to be coming more and more common.
#4 – Ce3sar – Lakota (iLan Bluestone Remix) [Armind]
Little to nothing is know about the newest DJ in the trance scene, Ce3sar. However, his anonymity makes his production intriguing and putting the hottest trance DJ on the remix was a great decision in iLan Bluestone. Lakota for those who don’t know, is actually a Native American tribe in the Dakotas of the United States. The drop on the track is huge; it slaps. The vocal additions of a Native American chant give the track character and originality. With superior production, there is no wonder why Armin but it on his yearly collaboration under the Armind label.
#5 – Estiva & Cardinal – Wait Forever ft Arielle Maren (Daniel Kandi’s Bangin’ Remix) [Enhanced Recordings]
Rounding out the top 5 tracks of trance for 2013 is Estiva with “Wait Forever” on the Daniel Kandi Remix. This is easily the most gorgeous vocal trance track of the year thanks to Arielle Maren. Heavy on the BPMs, the track flies and is very powerful when the lyrics are taken in. With snapping bass and synths, it has a classic Dutch feel to it. In addition, the layering of the production is marvelous and blends seamlessly. Estiva had a monster year, and we only expect him to rise higher up the DJ Mag charts.
