Discover the making of his recent single “True Story”, his influence and upcoming projects.
Kenny, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule! Tell us where you’re from and how you got introduced to music and production?
No problem guys! It’s always a pleasure to speak about music 🙂 I’m from southern Switzerland. I’m been DJing for almost 18 years, and for about 5 years I’ve also been active in the discography industry after finishing a school of sound technician in Milan.
What led you to specifically getting involved with the house, tech house and deep house genres?
When I was young I loved the hip hop genre. From there I fell in love with the turntables, and soon after I started to get involved with the classic house music and vinyls. I spent a lot of time researching music of the 90s where labels such as Defected and Subliminal were at their peak. Since I am a very fussy about technique, I was inspired to take a normal approach to the genre, but with a bit more technological approach that remains tied to the old house music.
What is it like working with Witty Tunes as a label?
Witty Tunes is one of my favorite labels in this genre. I have always followed all their releases and I regularly play many of their tracks. Working with them on this EP for me has been an honor and I hope that in the future we can work together again. In fact I am preparing a new EP soon to send back to them. Witty Tunes is an excellent platform!
Your most recent track, “True Story” will be featured on EDM Charts, Vol. 145 and has got great exposure on Beatport and other radio shows like Mark Knight’s Toolroom Radio. Describe the track and how it all came together?
“True Story” is one of the best tracks I have produced. I am very happy with the results. I love to use filters in my tracks. In this track I used different parts filtered with phasers that resonate the various samples. I wanted to create a very powerful track with a strong impact. I included a very addictive bassline and I did my best to make it as explosive as possible! It was not the first time that Mark Knight has played one of my tracks on his radio show! I am very happy about that!
What are some upcoming productions/projects you are working on?
As mentioned before I am preparing another EP to be presented to Witty Tunes. I also just finished a remix for Bob Sinclar due out on his famous label Africanism. I receive daily requests for remixes and tracks from various labels. I try to do everything possible to please everyone. I just finished tracks and remixes for labels like: Vamos Music, Overdrive Musik, Not for Us and many more. I also have 4 labels which I regularly produce various remixes.
Are there any artists/vocalists that you have been dying to work with?
An artist who makes me mad is definitely Steve Edwards! I’ve always loved his vocal timbre and all its productions with great artists are true masterpieces.
What are some artists that have been role models for you as a developing artist?
There hasn’t been a particular artist that I have followed with obsession. I always followed the genre of house music and am open-minded. Lately a producer that I have been following is Cuartero, I love his old school style but at the same time he is technical and efficient. Another is definitely Hector Couto, who I follow a lot of his tracks!
What is your hottest track at the moment?
I’d say “TrueStory” and “My Money” are the most explosive at the moment, as well as “The Undeground” released a month ago on Crossworld Records.
Where can fans discover more about you and get your music?
My social networks are constantly updated as well as my website: www.kennyground.com. If you want to listen to all of my tracks you can visit my channel on soundcloud. You will find all of my tracks there, since the beginning! All my music can be found online on Beatport and all other stores. Thanks a lot guys!
