2. Mediate – What Do You Do [Jade Blue Remix) (Love & Other)

Description: ‘What You Do’ follows the duo’s first Love & Other smash, ‘Everytime’ which gathered support from DJs notably, Pete Tong and Gorgon City. Influenced by UK garage and house music, the original cut sees Suzy’s angelic vocals combined with a catchy piano riff and clean, bass-led production. Jade Blue’s remix takes a harder approach, before slipping into a ballistic five minutes of incendiary bass licks and ominous-sound synths. Light and shade proves key; the contrast between Suzy’s vocal and Jade Blue’s bass work is superb.

4. Dantiez Saunderson, KPD, LaRae Starr – Place Called Home [Original Mix] (Defected)

Rating: ★★★
Genre: Deep House
Origin: USA
Description: As the son of house and techno legend Kevin Saunderson, it is no surprise the Dantiez evidently has a natural gift for production, having himself said “no doubt my father was a huge influence. Watching him in the studio, when I was growing up, was amazing”. For the title Dantiez collaborates with KPD, the South American DJ who has gained residencies across the globe and released across big labels such as KMS, Pacha Recordings and now Defected. ‘Place Called Home’ features the soulful vocals of LaRae Starr, who has featured on another Defected release; Phil Agosta’s ‘Lonely’. Her vocal is dominant and has a sound that definitely reaches back to older house records. The track has a rolling baseline and melodic tune that paired with the vocal add a real musicality to the club track.
